| Turkish Society of Cardiology is the nonprofit, nongovernmental organization of Turkish cardiologists, established on May 21st, 1963. Its 1542 members cover almost all the academicians and practitioners of cardiology and the related specialists in Turkey. TSC is the most active medical professional society in the country and accredited by the state as “an institution working for public benefit” since April 5th, 1980. TSC is the member of ESC and WHF since 1964. It leads the Cardiology Societies of the Turkish-speaking countries to join the international organizations of cardiology. Turkic World Cardiology Association is going to hold its 6th Congress in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, on November 8-10, 2008. TSC has taken the initiative to develop the National Policy for Cardiovascular Health and discussed the issue in three consecutive congresses and a national conference. On December 26, 2007, the President of the Health Commission of the Turkish Parliament, Turkish Minister of Health and the presidents of 8 other medical specialization societies under the leadership of TSC joined in the Signing Ceremony of the European Heart Health Charter in Ankara. In his speech at the ceremony the Minister Prof. Dr. Recep Akdag announced that the Strategic Plan to combat against CVD was completed and two new departments were founded to implement this policy: Health Promotion and Chronic Epidemic Diseases. TSC prepared and submitted the curricula of the certification programs for “Invasive Cardiology”, “Arrhythmia and Electrophysiology” and “Cardiac CT-MR” to the Ministry besides the new “Curriculum of Specialization in Cardiology” that increases the period of Cardiology specialization program from 5.5 years to 6 years. The reports on DES and Periferic Interventions also presented to the Ministry. TSC carries on its activities by the active participation of ten working groups and fifteen functional sub-committees of the Board. At the recent General Meeting held on April 13, 2008; Nuclear Cardiology WG dissolved and joined in the Echocardiography to form the new “Cardiac Imaging WG”. There will be two representatives for Nuclear Cardiology and Cardiac CT-MR in the board of the Cardiac Imaging WG. The head office of the Turkish Society of Cardiology is a 1,125 sqm flat providing office spaces, a lecture hall for 100 people and additional meeting rooms. A team under the management of the CEO who was appointed on December 1st, 2004 provides professional service for all the TSC activities, national and international.
